Junaid Khan, Khushi Kapoor Begin Shooting For Their Next Untitled Romantic Film In New Delhi: Report
Junaid Khan will be soon seen in Siddharth P. Malhotra's Maharaja, it is based on the Maharaja Libel Trial Case of 1862.

Junaid Khan, son of Aamir Khan, is all set to make his acting debut with Maharaja. Amid this, he has been shooting back-to-back for his next film co-starring Khushi Kapoor. The romantic drama title is yet to be announced. However, the report says that the lead actors are in the national capital for the second leg of the shoot.

In its exclusive report, Hindustan Times mentioned, “The first leg of the shoot wrapped up in Mumbai, and now the duo is filming in the Capital. The team started shooting here three-four days ago, and the schedule will go on for another 10-12 days. While the supporting cast has been joining the shoot as and when needed, Junaid and Khushi are going to be here for the entire schedule.”

In May, Mid-day quoted sources saying the shooting began in Mira Road, Mumbai. While originally scheduled for June, director Chandan moved the start date to accommodate Junaid’s promotional commitments for Maharaj next month. The film is reported to be a remake of the 2022 Tamil hit Love Today, which starred and was directed by Pradeep Ranganathan.

Talking about Siddharth P. Malhotra-directed thriller drama, Maharaja, it is based on the Maharaja Libel Trial Case of 1862. According to a press release issued by Netflix last month, Maharaj follows Karsandas Mulji, a journalist and social reformer, who was a pioneering advocate for women’s rights and social reform. A student at Elphinstone College in Mumbai and a protege of the scholar-leader Dadabhai Naoroji, Mulji wrote on widow remarriage, stood up for the oppressed, and sowed the seeds of reform in society.

Recently, Gujarat High Court has imposed a stay on the film, Maharaj. It marks the acting debut of Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan and was supposed to hit theatres on June 14. However, the High Court has halted its release following a plea by a Hindu group, which claimed that the movie could incite violence and accused it of “disrespecting” Sanatan Dharma.

As reported by India Today, the “stay order was issued on a petition filed on behalf of devotees of Lord Krishna and followers of Vallabhacharya, which is the Pushtimarg sect.” Reportedly, the petition claimed that the film could create a disturbance in public and could incite violence. It further alleged that the film makes “seriously blasphemous comments against Lord Krishna as well as devotional songs and hymns.”

The complaint also claimed that the makers of Maharaj have intentionally not released the film’s trailer so that there is limited access to the story. Since Maharaj’s release has now been halted, the next court hearing will take place on June 18.
