Janhvi Kapoor Recalls Being 'Sexualised' By The Media At The Age Of 12-13; Here's What She Said
Janhvi Kapoor opened up about being sexualised by the media during her teenage years.

Janhvi Kapoor is preparing for the release of the sports drama ‘Mr and Mrs Mahi’. In a recent discussion featured on the official YouTube channel of Dharma Productions, she was joined by co-star Rajkummar Rao and producer Karan Johar. During the conversation, Janhvi spoke candidly about being ‘sexualized’ at a very young age.

When Karan inquired about Janhvi’s response to the persistent objectification she experiences, she replied, “I feel like this is also an aspect that I have been navigating for a long time. I think the first time I felt sexualized by the media was when I was 12-13 years old. I went for an event with mom and dad. There were pictures of me in the media and social media had just started. I found pictures of me in what seemed like a pornographic site, and boys in my school were like looking at it and laughing.”

Janhvi added, “It is a very weird thing to navigate and I have been navigating it for a very long time. I think I am very apologetic about where I come from and I need to get over that. I am sure other people deal with it in a much more different sense. I still think the way I am explaining it and my experiences of it are very privileged. But it was complicated… There is a sort of character assassination that a girl faces when she dresses in a way that makes it seem like she is comfortable with her sexuality.”

Directed by Sharan Sharma, known for his debut with ‘Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl (2020), Mr And Mrs Mahi will mark Janhvi Kapoor’s fourth theatrical release, following Dhadak (2018), Roohi (2021), and Mili (2022). She is set to star in two more films this year, the political thriller ‘Ulajh’ and the Pan India project ‘Devara’ alongside Jr NTR and Saif Ali Khan. For Rajkummar Rao, after ‘Srikanth’ and ‘Mr And Mrs Mahi,’ his upcoming 2024 releases include ‘Stree 2′ and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video.’

In an interview with Mid-Day, Janhvi had earlier revealed that she underwent a gruelling six months of intensive training in order to adapt to the mannerisms of a cricketer for Mr and Mrs Mahi. The actress had said, “It was an exhaustive process of six months to get into the skin of the character and sync into the role.”
