Janhvi Kapoor Announces Mr & Mrs Mahi's OTT Release In Fun Video
Directed by Sharan Sharma, Mr & Mrs Mahi marks the second collaboration between Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor.

After its decent theatrical run, Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor starrer Mr and Mrs Mahi is all set to head towards OTT. Directed by Sharan Sharma, the film was released on May 31, 2024, and opened to mixed reactions from audiences and critics alike. The romantic sports drama will mark its debut on Netflix, starting on Friday, July 26. Announcing the same on Instagram, Janhvi Kapoor shared a fun video, giving a glimpse into her recent love for cricket.

“From net practice to Netflix. Watch #Mr&MrsMahi, now on Netflix!” the caption read. The official handle of Netflix India also shared the news and wrote, “Their story is the ultimate match. Mr. & Mrs. Mahi is about to hit it straight to your screens, arriving at midnight on Netflix!”

It is nearly two months after its theatrical release that Mr & Mrs Mahi is available for OTT streaming. The film marks the second collaboration between Janhvi and Rao after the horror-comedy flick, Roohi.

The film revolves around the love story of Mahendra, a struggling cricketer, and Mahima, a doctor. As both of them share a common love and passion for the sport, they eventually bond and fall in love with each other. After getting married, Mahendra decides to train his wife for her career in cricket, leading her to the Indian Women’s Cricket Team.

However, things take a different turn after Mahendra starts feeling insecure about Mahima’s success and breaks her trust. Their story of growth, dreams, trust, and cricket is all that makes Mr & Mrs Mahi. Backed by Zee Studios and Dharma Productions, the film was announced in November 2021. Following its release this year, it managed to earn around Rs 51 crore.

Speaking to News18, director Sharan Sharma spoke about the film’s idea and said that it was inspired by the traditional practice of restricting women from working post-marriage. “The first idea we had was that very often when a girl gets married in India, maybe she gets married into a family where, after marriage, they are not allowed to work. The ideology still exists. But what if a woman gets married into a family where the husband gives her wings? So the starting point of the idea for the film came from this. But as we got deeper into the writing process, we got interested in those,” he said.
