Rajeev Masand's annual actresses round table had actresses Sonam Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Alia Bhatt, Radhika Apte and Anushka Sharma sharing their experience on the films they worked and the roles that left a deep impact on them. When Masand asked if they ever personally connected to any role, Vidya spoke how the story of Kahaani 2 was something she deeply felt attached to. The film, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, dealt with child sex abuse. While Vidya spoke about how it's important for the victim to understand that it's not her/his fault, Sonam Kapoor agreed with her and revealed how she was molested when she was young and she did not speak about it for a long time.
"I think everyone goes through some kind of sexual abuse in their childhood. I know I have been molested when I was younger. It was traumatizing and I did not speak about it for two years. I remember the incident so clearly," recounted Sonam.
The actress explained that she had gone to Gaity Galaxy theatre with her friends to watch a movie where, at the food counter, a man grabbed her breasts from behind. "I started shaking and shivering. I didn't know what was going on and I started crying right there. I didn't speak about it that day and I just finished watching the film. I felt I had done something wrong for the longest time."
Sonam added that she knows a lot of her friends who have gone through similar incidents and that it is important to make films that deal with such issues so that more people talk about it.
Anushka Sharma added that how in India, most people shy away from talking about sexuality and sexual abuse to their children which is much needed.
