New Delhi: Let’s be clear: it takes confidence, stylish looks, subtle moves and a peppy number to stand out from a bunch of singers that enter the Punjabi showbiz industry almost every day. Sukh-e of ‘Jaguar’ fame has all of this! The singer needn’t make loud noises, jump up and down, twerk or do anything bizarre to garner one’s attention. Instead, he only needs to do good work to carve a space for himself in the competitive showbiz industry.
Originally from a small town Garhshankar in Punjab, Sukh-e aka Sukhdeep Singh may have been asked by his family to enter the academic field, but he is happy that he never bowed down to pressure. “Music is a domain that helped me delve into the different aspects of my personality. Since I come from a small town like Garhshankar, stardom was never the goal I had set out to achieve. I never led a glamorous life, which was expected because of the restrictions that were imposed on me. But one thing was clear – I had to strive to achieve the big dreams. Even though I was expected to focus on academics, I knew music was my forte,” he says.
Sukh-e, who refers to positivity as a state of mind, remains unfazed by critics and pessimists. “Mai toh banda hi bahut positive hoon. Main kabhi nahi sochunga negatively. Jo karna hai positively hi karna hai. Aur sochna bhi positive hi hai. So when I decided to enter the industry I knew I would want to do that in a different, striking way. Isn’t all of this obvious from my looks?” he says.
A self-confessed cricket lover, Sukh-e thinks it is Virat Kohli is the most stylish, the coolest and the most prominent member of the team. “You can’t expect the cricketers to not pay attention to their style. Unmei style hona hi chahiye. Virat Kohli mei X factor hai. This is evident from the number of commercials he can be seen in. So if you ask me who has the right X factor amongst Virat, Yuvraj and Dhoni – it has to be Virat!”
