The DC Universe has found its new Supergirl. On Monday, January 29, the CEO of DC Studios James Gunn announced that actress Milly Alcock will slip into the shoes of the superhero character. Milly is best known for her performance in the widely acclaimed HBO series House Of Dragon. She will be essaying the role of Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl in the upcoming film titled Superman: Legacy. Not only that, but Milly has also been roped in for her cosmic adventure film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, based on the twelve-issue comic mini-series of the same name, written by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.
Dropping the casting details on Instagram, James Gunn shared a screenshot of a media outlet that hinted at Milly Alcock being a part of the film. “This is accurate. Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I’m incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU. Yes, I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for Supergirl. She embodies Kara as envisioned by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira,” he wrote. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is one of the five feature movies announced for James and film producer Peter Safran’s DCU.

Soon after the announcement DC lovers reacted to the post and lauded the casting decision of the DC chiefs. “DCU’s casting department has been cooking nonstop!” noted one user. “ You don’t understand how much hearing the words “this is accurate” from you means,” commented another. “This is an excellent choice. Can’t wait to see her in character,” wrote a third individual.

The director of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has not been decided yet, reports Variety. James Gunn has also not revealed when Milly Alcock will be making her superhero debut. Actress Ana Nogueira has been selected to write the screenplay of the upcoming cinematic venture. Meanwhile, Superman: Legacy, which will be written and directed by James will begin production in March this year. Responding to a Threads post earlier, James confirmed the news, as cited by Radio Times.
In the 1959 Action Comics #252, created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, Supergirl or Kara Zor-El is portrayed to be the cousin of Superman aka Clark Kent. She is sent to Earth before her home planet Krypton gets destroyed.
