The South film industry has given many actors and actresses who ventured into politics after gaining fame in the entertainment industry. After debuting in Tamil movies, the actress ventured into the Telugu movie industry with the movie Nyayam Kavalai in 1981.

After initial hiccups, she emerged as the leading director and producer of Tamil television shows. Radhika Sarathkumar started her cinematic journey with the movie Kizhakke Pogum Rail in 1978. It was co-written and directed by Bharathiraja. As per previous interviews of the actress, Radhika had never planned to join the entertainment industry. The actress once claimed that she accidentally came into movies.

“I didn’t look like an actor, I was not brought up as one- I was in hostels most of my life, I was travelling. I came accidentally into movies,” she said as quoted by The News Minute. It was director Bharathiraja who approached the actress for a role in his movie. The movie turned her into a celebrity overnight and before she could understand the rising fame, the actress signed the successive films.
