An FIR has been filed against actor Sonakshi Sinha and seven others for fraud amounting to Rs 37 lakh.
According to reports, Pramod Sharma, the owner of a Moradabad event firm named India Fashion and Beauty Award, paid Sonakshi Rs 28.17 lakh in June (in four installments through electronic transfer) to perform at the company’s award show in Delhi on September 30.
He spent Rs 9 lakh more on the commission of two event companies associated with Sonakshi and in arranging for her accommodation and travel.
However, despite having accepted the payment, Sonakshi did not show up at the event. The company claims that Sonakshi’s absence has caused a great deal of damage to the reputation of the company. According to a livehindustan.com report, the spectators present at the show were so annoyed at the actress’ absence that they vandalised the venue.
The report also claims that Sonakshi had released promotional videos of the award show after accepting the payment. However, on the day of the show, she cancelled her 10am flight and got two seats booked on the 3pm flight but never came to the event.
The complaint was filed with the senior superintendent of police of Moradabad’s Katghar area. An investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Sonakshi will next be seen in two big ensemble films—Karan Johar’s Kalank, which also has Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt, and Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal, which also stars Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu and Sharman Joshi in important roles.
