FEFKA Directors Union Responds After Aashiq Abu’s Resignation. Deets Inside
According to reports, a show cause notice was issued to Aashiq Abu in 2018.

FEFKA Directors Union has reportedly responded to the allegations raised by the filmmaker Aashiq Abu. In their press release, FEFKA mentioned that they were surprised as Aashiq Abu – who applied for a membership renewal a few days ago – has now announced his resignation. They clarified that the allegations levied by the director were all false. The union mentioned this in a press conference. The press release mentioned that in 2018, Aashiq Abu made a fake allegation through print media and social media platforms claiming the then General Secretary of FEFKA Directors Union Sibi Malayil, demanded a 20 percent commission for helping him receive his due payment from a producer. The organisation tagged the accusations as fake and baseless.

“Aashiq Abu is now repeating arguments that were previously debunked. This clearly shows that his differences with the organisation are not ideological but rather stem from personal motives,” the press release read.

It further mentioned that in the early days, the union faced severe financial issues. To resolve the financial disputes, the union reportedly followed the standard trade union practice that is practised by other film worker federations also, in which the members voluntarily contributed 10 percent of the recovered amount to the union’s working fund.

The union executive members mentioned that this was practised after taking consent from other members. Aashiq reportedly explained the reasons behind the practice by the members but despite this, he was unwilling to pay even a single rupee that the union recovered on his behalf. The press release read, “Despite understanding that these contributions are used for pension and posthumous benefits for members without work or income, Aashiq Abu was unwilling to contribute even a single rupee from the amount that was recovered for him by the union. Consequently, FEFKA returned the Rs 92,500 cheque (cheque no: 8098, dated 14-3-2012) that he had reluctantly sent.”

According to reports, a show cause notice was issued to Aashiq Abu in 2018 regarding this matter. He has also not paid the annual membership fee of Rs 500 for the past eight years. The director settled the payment on August 12 to renew his membership but then resigned.

“It seems strange that someone who has stayed away from the organisation and its activities for a long time applied to renew his membership on 12-8-24, only to announce his resignation shortly afterwards. Therefore, the FEFKA Directors Union has decided not to renew Aashiq Abu’s membership and to return the amount he paid,” the release read.
