Actor Aasif Khan, who played Ganesh in TVF’s iconic series Panchayat, is gearing up for his upcoming film Kakuda alongside Riteish Deshmukh, Sonakshi Sinha and Saqib Saleem. The movie is set for a direct release on an OTT platform. Ahead of its premiere, Aasif Khan shared insights into his camaraderie with the cast, particularly highlighting his special bond with Sonakshi Sinha, whom he fondly refers to as his rakhi sister.
In a conversation with Pinkvilla, Aasif shared, “During our Kakuda shoot in 2021, I was quite nervous in the first 4 to 5 days. Riteish sir, Sonakshi, and Saqib Saleem might have known each other. After each shot, everyone used to sit behind the monitor. But I used to wonder what should I talk about?”
The actor continued, “They used to talk to each other about their experiences. But, I did not have much to talk about. When a film crew shoots outdoors, they become friends naturally.”
Aasif further spoke about Raksha Bandhan and shared that he could see from Sonakshi’s face that she couldn’t go home. “Both of us were in our rooms. I wrote a poem for her on Rakhi and sent it across. So, she texted me asking where I was. I told her I was in my room. She said come quickly. So, when I went, she had kept the Rakhi prepared and that is how we became brother and sister,” Aasif added.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Kakuda is a comedy-horror film about a town trapped in time by a curse, where three inhabitants encounter a ghost that makes them question superstition, tradition and love. It will be released on July 12 on Zee 5.
Apart from Kakuda, Aasif is set to appear in director Siddhant Kumar Sachdev’s upcoming film The Virgin Tree. It also features Sunny Singh, Palak Tiwari and Mouni Roy in pivotal roles. Director Navaniat Singh’s Noorani Chehra is also in the pipeline.
Aasif Khan began his journey in the entertainment industry as a casting assistant. He then started as a junior artist, appearing in several films like Ready, Agneepath, Toilet Ek Prem Katha and India’s Most Wanted. In the digital realm, Aasif made his debut in 2018 with the popular series Mirzapur. He impressed audiences with his role as Babar. He also featured in series like Paatal Lok, Jamtara – Sabka Number Ayega, Panchayat, and Mirzapur 2.
