The festival of colours, Holi is one of the most important festivals in the Hindu calendar. The day before Holi, Hindus observe Choti Holi or Holika Dahan. This day holds great significance as it symbolises the victory of good over evil.

This year, Choti Holi or Holika Dahan is on March 24. Holi, on the other hand, falls on March 25, the day after Holika Dahan. The auspicious timing for Holika Dahan starts at 11:13 pm on March 24 and ends at 12:27 am on March 25. This period will last for 1 hour and 14 minutes.

Many people love donating on the occasion of Holi. But astrology suggests that there are specific items one should avoid donating, even on this auspicious day. Astrologer Ravi Shukla from Ujjain has shared which items should not be donated. Let’s take a look.

  • It is recommended to avoid donating white items on the day of Holika Dahan. It is believed that this action may upset the planet Venus. Additionally, donating white items on this day is said to cause Chandra Dosha.
  • According to Vastu Shastra, it is recommended to refrain from donating money on the day of Holika Dahan, as it is believed to adversely affect one’s economic circumstances.
  • On the occasion of Holi and Holika Dahan, married women are advised against donating items such as vermilion, alta, bindi, bangles, and others. It is believed that doing so may affect their wedding night, according to traditional beliefs.
  • According to astrology, donating clothes on both Holika Dahan and Dhundheri days may bring about challenges in an individual’s life. Furthermore, it could lead to financial hardships.
  • Avoid donating iron or steel utensils, even unintentionally, on Holi. Such actions are believed to carry potential harm.
  • It’s recommended to avoid donating metal items like iron and steel on both Holi and Holika Dahan. Likewise, it’s best to decline such items from others on Holi. Donating these things on Holi is thought to cause financial problems.
  • Refrain from donating mustard oil on the day of Holika Dahan and Holi. It is believed that donating mustard oil during these occasions is thought to anger Shani Dev.
