Oscar winning actress Charlize Theron was a guest on Diane Von Furstenberg’s Spotify podcast, InCharge with DVF season finale on Thursday. The activist and producer opened up about motherhood being the ultimate act of empowerment. She also revealed who she is in a relationship with at the moment.
Charlize, who is a mother of two adopted children - 8-year-old Jackson and 5-year-old August, revealed an interesting conversation she had with her youngest daughter. While speaking during the podcast, Charlize said, “Two days ago, I was in the car with my two girls and my little one said, “You know what, mom? You just need a boyfriend, you need a relationship!'”
The 44-year-old actress declared to her little baby girl that right now she is dating herself. Charlize continued, “She had this look in her eye like she had never really contemplated that that was even a possibility. Her mind was blown. But, I know that was the day that she realized there’s a different possibility.”
Charlize has been open about raising her transgender daughter Jackson alongside August and admits that she is back to learning every single day as they challenge her in such a way. She said (via), “I didn’t know I was going to be the mom to an African-American trans girl. My children have completely reopened my eyes to the world and I jokingly always say I’m back at university.”
Charlize grew up with an alcoholic father, who was killed by none other than her own mother Gerda Maritz, in self-defense when the actress was 15 years old. Speaking about the ordeal, Charlize revealed she used her on-screen versatile characters to channel the trauma, shaping her own path from survival to art.
