The first Bhaum Pradosh Vrat of 2024 will be observed tomorrow, January 9. On this day, the devotees keep a fast to worship Lord Shiva. According to the Hindu calendar, the Bhaum Pradosh Vrat is observed on the Trayodashi date of Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha of every month. As per the Hindu scriptures, this day is considered auspicious for Lord Shiva devotees. This festival is also known as Pradosham in the southern parts of India. Dr Gaurav Dixit, astrologer hailing from Soron town in Uttar Pradesh, talks about the time and significance of Bhaum Pradosh Vrat. According to Dr Dixit, worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati with dedication and devotion on this auspicious day can fulfil devotees’ wishes. It will bring them good luck, prosperity and happiness.

Some devotees also worship Lord Shiva in the form of Lord Nataraja on this day. It is believed that mother Parvati met Lord Shiva after keeping this fast. According to the Hindu Panchang, the Trayodashi date of Krishna Paksha of Pausha month will take place from 11:26 pm on Monday, January 8. The duration of the fast will conclude on Tuesday, January 9 at 10:18 pm. Lord Shiva is worshipped during these hours. As per Dr Gaurav Dixit, the auspicious time to worship Lord Shiva is from 05:13 pm to 8 pm.

Evening is considered the best time to worship Lord Shiva on Pradosh Vrat. You must follow a set of rules to worship the Lord on this day. Devotees should wake up early in the morning, which should be followed by a holy bath. After this, clean the temple and install the idol of Lord Shiva and Parvati in it. Light a lamp in front of them. Then offer flowers, sweets and fruits to God and chant the mantras of Shiva. At the same time, conclude the puja with Aarti and blow the conch shell at the end. After this, devotees can break their fast with satvik food. It is believed that keeping this fast can bring you closer to the fulfilment of your desires.
