The 60th edition of the prestigious Baeksang Arts Awards is just around the corner. The grand affair promises a night of glitz, glamour and recognition for the finest achievements in Korean entertainment. Scheduled to take place on May 7 at the COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, this year’s event marks a significant milestone. It will celebrate six decades of honouring excellence in broadcast, cable and streaming TV content, as well as domestic films and theatrical productions.
The nominees for the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards will be selected by a panel of 60 esteemed industry experts, with the final list set to be released on April 8 via the official awards website.
The eligibility period for this year’s awards spans from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024, ensuring that a wide array of exceptional works released during this timeframe are considered for recognition.
The ceremony, renowned for its star-studded attendees and memorable performances, will be broadcast live on JTBC, JTBC2, and JTBC4, starting at 5 pm KST.
In the TV category, qualifying entries must consist of at least four episodes and include content from terrestrial, comprehensive, cable, OTT and web platforms. Serial works are eligible only if they have been broadcast for more than one-third of their total length as of the screening date. Productions that were excluded during the previous year’s candidate review period will be eligible for consideration this year.
The film category focuses on Korean feature films released domestically during the specified period. Movies that were excluded due to the timing of the review period or release date will be considered for the following year’s awards. Directors who made their feature film debut during the judging period will be eligible for the Best New Director category.
In both the TV and film categories, the criteria for nomination for the Rookie Award stipulate that there are three or fewer films with a certain number of main or supporting roles in each category, and the award is not tied to the year of debut.
The judging period for the theater category mirrors that of the TV and film categories, with awards such as the Young Theater Award, Acting Award, and Baeksang Theater Award up for grabs.
