Lucknow: As the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government presented its second Budget on Friday, it once again shied away from its earlier promise of providing free laptops and data package to college-going students. This was a promise that the BJP had made in its Sankalp Patra before the 2017 Assembly elections.
However, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that instead of distributing free laptops, the government will rather focus on better education through a changed syllabus.
The previous Samajwadi Party government had purchased 12 lakh laptops at the rate of Rs 13,490 per laptop. Yogi government’s 2017 allocation of Rs 1,800 crore for the laptop distribution scheme was Rs 1,000 crore short of the required Rs 2,832.9 crore.
The Samajwadi Party has termed the Budget 2018-19 as ‘disappointing’. Speaking to News18, Samajwadi Party spokesperson, Rajendra Chowdhary said, “The Budget is incomplete and once again there is nothing much for the farmers. The Yogi government has not done anything concrete to generate employment opportunities for the youth. The government is just playing with the figures.”
Also, Bahujan Samaj Party leader Lalji Verma claimed that the common man is “disappointed” with Friday’s Budget. He said, “Around 60% of the allocations from the last Budget were not spent; hence the deficit from the previous Budget will also go up this year.”
Taking a hit the second Budget of the BJP government, Congress, too, has said that the government is running on God’s mercy.
Congress MLA, Ajay Singh Lallu said, “The public was hoping that some new schemes will be launched to benefit the youth and farmers but there’s nothing in it for them. Also, potato and sugarcane farmers have been ignored in this Budget and no special package was announced. The promise of generating 14 lakh jobs every year also does not look to be fulfilled by this Budget.”
