A private company has prepared the report without comments or suggestions by any expert in the field of river diversion, he said, showing the report accessed through RTI. The feasibility report will not solve the drinking water problems of Kolar and Chikballapur, the main purpose of the river diversion. If the project is started as per the feasibility report, neighbouring states will benefit much more than the people of Karnataka, said Prof Mayya. The state government plans to deceive the people of the state by targeting `8,600 crore of tax payers money, said KJNRS president Vijaya Kumar Shetty. There are many people, including politicians, involved in the blatant attempt to cheat people, he alleged. Earlier, the project was called Netravathi River Diversion Project. Later, in the name of diverting only flood water from Yettinahole, it was renamed Diversion of Peak Flow From Yettinahole River, he added. JD(S) state secretary M G Hegde said that the State Cabinet which had approved the feasibility report submitted by one M/s EI Technologies should come forward for an open discussion in Mangalore. Fishermen community leader Vasudeva Boloor said that fishing along the Karnataka coast was completely based on river water which joins the sea.
