The concept of live-in relationships has become popular in urban centres of the world over the last few years. However, one might to surprised to know that this practice of live-in relationships has been in practice in a village in Rajasthan among the Garasia tribe for many centuries.
Women from this tribe marry only when she has a child. Prior to that, she is free to change her live-in partner whenever she wants.
Moreover, ranks of women are much higher than that of men. Women in this tribe decide with whom she wants to live her life with.
Garasia women choose their husbands from the annual Gaur fair. Whichever partner, the woman chooses, goes along with her. When the partner reaches the woman’s place, his family pays some money to the woman’s family.
Women can change their partners every year in this annual fair. The woman marries her partner and settles down only when she has gives birth to her child.
