VELLORE: A group of 18 sports persons from Vellore have done the district proud as they won gold, silver and bronze medals at the state level weightlifting event held at Kanyakumari recently. According to district sports officer G Mathimaran, gold medals were won by S Balamurugan in the 55 kg category, while J Srinivasan in the 77 kg category, P Prakash in 105 kg and A Vinodh Kumar in the 105+ kg category. Silver medals were won by C Ganesh Kumar (56 kg), M Anandan (62 kg), A Ashwin Kumar (69 kg) and P Rajganesh (105+ kg). Bronze medals were won by A Ramachandran (62 kg), N Elumalai (82 kg) and M Ilavarasan (105 kg).Among women, gold medals were won by S Sudha (53 kg), R Anitha (63 kg) and R Kavitha (69 kg) while the silver was won by R Pavithra (75+ kg) and bronze by K Vijayalakshmi (48 kg), Saradha (53 kg) and R Janaki (69 kg). The winners met Collector Ajay Yadav on Monday who felicitated them. Weightlifting coach L Vinayagamoorthy was also present on the occasion.
