This, in effect, means that the state government has cancelled operating licenses for both wings of the hospital.

Kolkata: The West Bengal Health Department, after health officials visited the main wing of the AMRI Hospital on Tuesday, instructed the Dhakuria wing of the hospital, where over 90 people killed in fire, to stop admitting new patients in the main wing as well.

The main building was still in operation after the Annexe building was sealed after Friday's fire.

This, in effect, means that the state government has cancelled operating licenses for both wings of the hospital in Dhakuria.

Earlier on Saturday, the West Bengal government remained non-committal on whether a fresh licence would be issued to the hospital management to resume operations in its annexe-I building.

The Kolkata Fire Department had found AMRI's safety systems inadequate and had instructed the hospital authorities to upgrade it in July this year, but the hospital managed to renew its trade licence from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation despite violating building norms.

The fire services department is also under the scanner for issuing a no-objection certificate (NoC) to the hospital.
