PUDUCHERRY: Angry residents of Velrampet, on Wednesday, resorted to a road blockade following the failure of civic authorities to clear the water logging in the area. Hundreds of residents, led by AIADMK MLA A Baskar, staged an agitation at Marapalam and raised slogans against the government.Most of the areas were inundated with water and the civic officials did not take any steps to remove it. Some of the residents said snakes, caught in the gushing rain water, have entered their houses.Muthialpet police sub inspector Anilkumar rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the crowd, who insisted on a meeting with the civic officials.Tahsildar Ramesh then held talks with the agitators and assured them steps to remove the water.There was sunshine on Wednesday as the residents, who were affected by rains, heaved a sigh of relief. Puducherry town recorded 58.1 mm rains on Wednesday.The Met office predicts more rains at Puducherry, Cuddalore and Villupuram in the next 24 hours.
