THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: While the palmolein case continues to hog headlines, the Vigilance special court here has ordered Government Chief Whip P C George to appear in person in the court on October 18 in a contempt of court case pending against him for his remarks against the judge handling the same case.George is facing contempt of court proceedings for his outbursts against special judge P K Haneefa’s directive to investigate the role of  Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at the time of  inception of  the palmolein deal in the early 90s, when he was the Finance Minister in the K Karunakaran ministry.Apparently enraged by the court’s initiation of  contempt of court proceedings against him, George had dashed a letter to the President and other key Constitutional authorities  at the Centre and state, kicking up a controversy. George had appealed against the contempt of  court proceedings initiated by the Vigilance court on which Thursday’s ruling was passed.Meanwhile, the Vigilance court admitted a petition filed by a social activist-lawyer seeking close monitoring of the re-investigation of the palmolein case, which has been ordered recently by the same court to find out the role of  Oommen Chandy in the whole deal.
