A bridge collapse in Bihar’s Siwan on Saturday caused widespread panic and commotion in the area. The dramatic and sudden collapse was captured in a video, which has gone viral on the internet, just days after a similar incident was reported in the state.

The collapse of the bridge occurred over the Gandak canal and reverberated to the neighbouring Ramgarh in the Darbhanga district. Initial reports indicate that there were no casualties from the incident.

A video that captured the exact moment when the bridge collapsed has emerged, highlighting the severity of the structural failure in Bihar.

The bridge that served as a vital link connecting the markets of Patedhi Bazar in Maharajganj district with Ramgarh Panchayat in Darbhanga, was a critical passageway for thousands of commuters daily.

According to locals, the bridge was constructed about 40-45 years ago with contributions from residents who raised funds for its construction. Later, some government assistance was also received.

This comes just days after a portion of a newly constructed bridge over the Bakra river in Bihar collapsed in the Araria district. There were no reports of any fatality in the incident which was reported on Tuesday.

The bridge, constructed by the Rural Works Department (RWD) for Rs 10 crore, was not opened to the public as approach roads were yet to be constructed.

In March, an under-construction bridge over the Kosi river collapsed in Supaul district, leaving one person dead and 10 others injured.
