Unsafe part of Emar Mutt razed

PURI: Armed with Orissa High Court order, the district administration on Friday began bringing down the unsafe portion of Emar Mutt building here. Sub-collector Udhav Charan Majhi along with Works Department engineers and staff started the demolition. The debris would be cleared before the ‘Snan Purnima’ ritual of Lord Jagannath.In 2006, the district administration, after identification of unsafe structures along the Grand Road, the venue of the Rath Yatra, had asked the Emar Mutt authorities to demolish the unsafe building.The Mahant of the mutt and the shop-keepers, operating from the building, then moved the High Court to stop the demolition.  The court after gatheringopinions of experts asked the administration to remove the unsafe portion and rehabilitate the shop-keepers.
