Undemocratic move by AIADMK: Vaiko

CHENNAI: Accusing the ruling AIADMK of being undemocratic in holding the civic polls, MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Thursday said the political parties were not informed about the classification of wards.Speaking to reporters after releasing his party’s list of candidates for local body elections, Vaiko said there was no official notification on the categorisation of wards. “Only the AIADMK is aware of it. This is anti-democratic. The political parties were not even given the democratic right of preparing for the polls,” he said.Recalling the violent incidents during the civic polls in 2006, when the DMK was in power, Vaiko said the State Election Commissioner should be impartial in the conduct of elections.The MDMK leader said his party would seek votes to ensure graft-free local bodies in Tamil Nadu. “We will ask the people to give us an opportunity.”
