Bhubaneswar: Two more professors of the Utkal University were placed under suspension on Tuesday following allegations of sexual harassment made against them by girl students, university sources said.
"Professor Pravas Mishra and Professor Banamali Mohanty, professors of the psychology department, have been placed under suspension", Vice-chancellor Utkal University, Dr L N Mishra said.
"The complaints against them have been forwarded to the police," he added.
Another Professor of the same department, Professor AS Das had been suspended last week on charges of misbehaving with a group of girls during a field visit to Kendrapara district in April.
Das had accompanied the students of a self-financed diploma course, as guide.
He was arrested on Monday and produced before a Magistrate who sentenced him to the jail.
Professor Mohanty, who was suspended on Tuesday, had earlier been removed from the post of Head of Department following the allegations by the students that he had taken no action on their complaint against Das.
After the incident during the field visit, two other girl students of the psychology department approached the 'sexual harassment cell' of the university alleging that the two professors had behaved with them in an inappropriate manner.
The Chairperson of the cell, Professor Rita Ray, a professor of the sociology department, began inquiries into the allegations on Tuesday.
Besides, the Chairperson of State Women's Commission Namita Panda also visited the university campus during the day and made inquiries regarding to the allegations.
