VELLORE: Public picketed the railway premises on Monday due to delay of trains by one-and-a-half hours at the Arakkonam junction.As many as 15 trains including Kovai express, Saptagiri Express, Brindhavan express, Mumbai Super express and Kovai Toronto express from Chennai were delayed at the Arakkonam junction, as these trains were operated on the third railway track from Thiruvalangadu to Arakkonam. The change in operations was due to the track maintenance work that was carried out between Thiruvalangadu and Mosur tracks, between Thiruvallur and Arakkonam junctions.Meanwhile, another problem arised early morning at the Arakkonam junction, as the EMU train to Chennai didn’t arrive. Sources said, the train met with an accident at Chennai and was not operated to Arakkonam. The EMU train would start from Chennai and reach Arakkonam at 6.50 am daily and would leave for Chennai at 7.10 am.Over a thousand passengers waited at the Arakkonam junction as Monday was the first working day of the new year. They had come for holidays and planned to return to Chennai on Monday. The delay annoyed them and they picketed the railway office demanding another train be arranged for them to be transported to Chennai. Officials later arranged two trains to Chennai, that left one after the other around 7.40 am.
