BANGALORE: The onset of monsoon season is still a mirage, but the roads are already facing the wrath of it. Proof: Parts of a road in the city caved in following a drizzle on Tuesday. Given the situation, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike is doing very little to prepare for the monsoons. The onset of pre-monsoon has already exposed the BBMP’s lack of maintenance as the Railway Parallel Road passing through Kumara Park West next to BDA Complex, where the road now resembles a ditch. It is proving to be a dangerous stretch for pedestrians and motorists who pass through that route and poses a dangerous threat to motorists travelling in the night. A spot visit on Wednesday revealed that neither the civic agencies nor the traffic police has installed  barricades or indicators, which are mandatory to alert commuters to the danger. In a reflection of the apathy, when City Express spoke to BBMP Chief Engineer,  krishnaswamy he showed ignorance to the problem. However, he claimed, “It is common to see damaged roads during the monsoon season. However, we’ll be taking necessary steps to fix the road. Also,  we have set up a round-the-clock BBMP control room to address civic issues.” He assured this reporter that steps will be taken to identify roads that may be vulnerable to the monsoons and take remedial action.
