There is a significant potential for cultivating the world’s most expensive mango in Malda, West Bengal. This district is already famous for its mangoes, with nearly 200 varieties grown here. The most expensive mango in the world is Japan’s Miyazaki mango. According to a recent study, farmers in Malda can now cultivate this mango and earn millions of rupees. The study reveals that Malda’s soil has great potential for commercial cultivation of the Miyazaki mango. Recently, three school teachers in Malda conducted research on the feasibility of cultivating the Miyazaki mango. Their findings revealed that Malda has the required climate and weather conditions for growing this variety. Additionally, the pH level of the soil in Malda is suitable for Miyazaki cultivation, and the temperature, which needs to be around 25 to 30 degrees Celsius, is also favourable. According to teacher and researcher Somnath Chatterjee, Malda’s soil and climate are highly favourable for this mango. In the future, there is great potential for large-scale cultivation.
The research was conducted by three teachers from Shovapur High School in Malda — Haraswami Das, Somnath Chatterjee, and Suchanda Das. Their study highlights the possibilities for Miyazaki mango cultivation in the district. Local farmers have not been able to prosper significantly through other varieties of mango, but the Miyazaki mango, being the most expensive in the world, could bring significant profits if grown on a large scale.
Teacher and researcher Haraswami Das stated that proper training for farmers could pave the way for widespread cultivation of this mango, which would benefit the district’s farmers in the long run. The study emphasises the need for active support from the district administration, agricultural department, and horticultural division to train farmers and provide the necessary resources. If this happens, Malda farmers could achieve significant financial gains by cultivating Japan’s Miyazaki mango.
