New Delhi: When the Congress won just 44 Lok Sabha seats, the BJP had joked that the entire Congress contingent can travel in just one Volvo Bus. Now the entire BJP legislative party can go to Delhi assembly in an auto as the triple riding on a two wheeler is not allowed!
Jagdish Pradhan, Om Prakash Sharma and Vijender Gupta are the only three BJP candidates who withstood the AAP Tsunami and managed to win their seats in Delhi Assembly election. Former BJP state president Vijender Gupta won from his bastion Rohini once again. He has defeated C L Gupta of the AAP about 5000 votes. Rohini has always elected a BJP candidate except 2013, when Vijender Gupta was asked to take on the then Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit and the AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi seat.
This time, Vijender Gupta was asked to return to his bastion Rohini to halt the AAP wave there. In a tough contest, he finally managed to win the seat back for the BJP.
In Vishwas Nagar assembly seat, Om Prakash Sharma of the BJP managed to beat the AAP. He defeated Dr. Atul Gupta of the AAP by over 11,000 votes.
In the third seat, BJP won - Mustafabad, Jagdish Pradhan of the BJP defeated sitting MLA Hassan Ahmed of the Congress over 5000 votes.
Except Vijender Gupta, no other big face of the opposition including the Congress has won. It will now be the job of Vijender Gupta to take on the AAP government with massive mandate.
He is the only experienced MLA among the three elected MLAs of his party.
Much worse than what happened to the Congress in the 2014 Lok Sabha election has happenneed to the BJP in Delhi assembly election. For the first time, there will be no recognized opposition party in the Assembly and no leader of the opposition too.
