Teacher hits boy, breaks his leg

VIJAYAWADA: In a savage act of corporal punishment, a private school teacher has broken the leg of a Class-VI student for missing the morning prayers. The incident occurred at Maruti Nagar here on Friday.While doctors advised the 12-year-old P Naveen Kumar ‘bed rest’ for six months, the angry parents lodged a complaint against the teacher with the Machavaram police station demanding stern action.Naveen Kumar and his younger brother Tarun (10), sons of P Chalapathi Rao and Lakshmi, are the residents of Moghalrajapuram. Machavaram police inspector said the boys had reached the school late on Friday morning because the school van, run by the same school management, ran late.The teacher, Rama Rao, without considering the reason or giving the boys the benefit of doubt, severely punished Naveen Kumar for missing the prayer meeting.The student fell down on the floor and fractured one of his legs in the process.Though the boy was writhing in pain, no one took him to hospital. They management informed the boy’s parents who took him to hospital.The doctors advised six-month bed rest for the boy.
