The Telangana Coordination Committee (TCC) on Monday demanded the central government to make out plans for the demerger of separate Telangana state from Andhara Pradesh as the presidential election have completed.
Speaking at a press conference here, TCC president A Gopala Kishan said there is no need for setting up a new committee to look into the issue. The central government can follow the report of the Fazal Ali Commission (on Telangana), submitted in 1956. It laid down a clear plan for the separation of Telangana. He asked the Centre to announce its stand on Telangana as students have been committing suicide frustrated over the government’s indifference.
Kishan said,”We want a separate Telangana state not merely on account of the backwardness of the region but to have self-respect and control over our resources.” The movement has been smouldering for long and we never know when it would burst like a volcano, he added. MLC Chukka Ramaiah, TCC general secretary T Vivek were present.
