A taxi crashed into the cavalcade of West Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose in the national capital on Tuesday. The WB Governor was immediately moved to a high-security zone following the incident which took place in the Inderpuri area of Delhi.
According to reports, one of the vehicles in WB Governor CV Ananda Bose’s motorcade brushed with the taxi. The taxi driver, identified as Ajit, unaware that the car belonged to the WB Governor, followed it to the guest house and crashed into his motorcade.
He was immediately taken into custody by the security guards and Delhi Police was promptly informed. The driver has been detained by the Delhi police and is being questioned.
The incident is suspected to be connected to Governor Bose’s visit to the unrest-hit area of Sandeshkhali in West Bengal a day ago. An investigation into the incident is underway.
“I was in Kerala, trying to organise an exhibition for Bengal. I was shocked to hear the news of Sandeshkhali. I cut short my visit and am going to Sandeshkhali to find out what sandesh (message) the people have,” the WB Governor said before his visit to Sandeshkhali on Monday.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said those behind the Sandeshkhali violence had been put behind bars.
“Anyone can go to Sandeshkhali. We have no issues with that. We have already sent the state women’s commission team there. They returned and submitted a report. Those who have instigated violence have been arrested. The situation is being monitored closely and necessary steps are being taken,” she said while speaking to reporters at Dumurjala stadium in Howrah district.
