Chennai: As much she loves picking up glamorous roles, southern actress Tashu Kaushik says she loves doing more realistic cinema. She wants to strike a balance between playing a glam doll and proving her acting prowess.

"There's absolutely nothing wrong in being glamorous on screen if audiences want to see me that way, but I also want to bring to fore my acting side. It is very important that as an actor I strike a balance between being glamorous as well act when a role demands," Tashu told IANS.

What is realistic cinema?

"Based on the film I am currently working on, I would say it's something that doesn't make me look like a dummy behind the camera. Realistic cinema could very well be films based on real incidents or on an offbeat one with appropriate amount of commercial elements," she said.

Tashu is currently working on upcoming Telugu political-thriller 'Reporter', in which she essays a non-glamorous role with multiple shades.

"I play a role called Maya in the film. As the title suggests, it is a film about the effective use of journalism. My character is more or less of an aid to the hero to help him reach his destination," said Tashu.

"One of the reasons that I signed up for this film is that I finally get to play portray my performance side. My character has two different shades, which I can't reveal, but I'm sure it would be loved by the audience when seen on screen," she added.

What did you find challenging in this role?

"My biggest challenge is to convince audiences that I'm suitable for the character I essay in the film. I've given it my all and I'm positive about the output. For the time in my career, I've also tried my hands at some stunts".

'Reporter' is directed by Katti Mahesh. It features Ramkee, Chaitra, Suresh, Chalapathi Rao, Sunita Rana and Surya in the lead.

G Ramakrishna has produced the film, which has music by Josyabhatla and cinematography by Muzir Malik.

"We have completed about 50 percent of the film in and around Hyderabad. We have almost covered every nook and corner of the city. If all goes well, then we are hoping to wrap up the film by mid March," Tashu said.

Meanwhile, Tashu is in discussion for three Telugu and two Malayalam projects.
