In Tamil Nadu, the schools were set to reopen after the long summer vacation today, June 10. The reopening of schools has been a little delayed due to the impact of the hot summer in Tamil Nadu recently and summer vacation was extended. In this case, the books will be provided to the students on the opening day of the school. On the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister, Karunanidhi, the state government has decided to distribute sweet pongal to the students on the reopening of the school.
On April 14, it was announced in the Legislative Assembly that sweet pongal would be given on the birthday of late former Chief Minister Karunanidhi. His birth anniversary was on June 3. However, the students were on their summer vacation and were not able to enjoy the benefit. Therefore, on the day of reopening, the student will be given sweet pongal.
Apart from the sweet dish, the students will also be given materials like textbooks, notebooks and geographical maps to the students of classes 1 to 12. It will be distributed in all types of government, government-aided, partially aided schools in financially aided classes and self-financed schools running in Tamil medium under the state curriculum.
Welfare items such as shoes, marigolds and woollen shirts, raincoats, boots, socks, coloured pencils, coloured crayons, bicycles, and math equipment boxes will also be provided to the school students. Schools have been directed to clean and repair the premises to welcome the students after a break. The textbooks will be distributed to 70.67 lakh students in Tamil Nadu. A total of 60.75 lakh students will be given notebooks and 8.2 lakh students will be given atlas. The students are in for a treat today.
In Puducherry, the schools are set to reopen on June 12.
