CHENNAI: As promised by CM J Jayalalithaa to representatives of protesting people around Koodankulam, the State Cabinet on Thursday adopted a resolution asking the Centre and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to order suspension of further works on the Koodankulam Atomic Power Plant until the apprehensions of the people were addressed. An all-party delegation led by State Finance Minister O Panneerselvam will visit Delhi after the return of the PM from New York on September 27. The delegation comprising various political leaders as well as the representatives of the protestors will submit a memorandum to the PM.Following a letter to the PM from Jayalalithaa on September 19 highlighting the Centre’s failure in not addressing the fears of the people around Koodankulam on the safety of the plant, the PM had sent his colleague V Narayanasamy to meet the protestors. He visited Idinthakarai where they were on fast, but could not make any headway on the issue. On September 21, the representatives from Koodankulam met the CM and, after her promise of a Cabinet resolution, withdrew their agitation on Thursday morning.
