Mumbai: A prosecution witness in the Neeraj Grover murder case on Monday told a sessions court that she was threatened to turn hostile by defence lawyers, following which prime accused Maria Susairaj's lawyers withdrew from the case.
Kannada actress Susairaj's lawyers Sudeep Pasbola and Acharya Murthy told the court that they are "deeply disturbed" by the allegation that they threatened a 'panch' witness Usha Ramalu to not testify in the case.
The surburban Goregaon police had on Saturday arrested a person named Raju Wankhede for allegedly threatening Ramalu with "dire consequences" if she deposes against Susairaj.
According to police, Wankhede was acting at the behest of Murthy and another defence lawyer Raja Thakur, who is Pasbola's junior.
Ramalu told the court that Wankhede had come to her office in Goregaon on Saturday and tried to offer her money to not depose in the case.
