Hockenheim: Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso has won the German Grand Prix at Hockenheimring circuit here on Sunday.
The two time world champion Alonso, who secured his second consecutive pole position in the final practice on Saturday, clinched his third win of the season, followed by his victories in the Malaysian GP and European GP.
However, Red Bull driver and reigning champion Sebastian Vettel finished second, while McLaren's Jenson Button took the third place.
The Spaniard drove his Ferrari with supreme judgment and great flair to prove he is the man to catch and beat in this year's title race as he goes in pursuit of his third drivers' title. Alonso now has a 34-point lead over Mark Webber in the driver's standings.
"It was tough. Maybe we were not the fastest in dry conditions but we were competitive to retain the lead," Alonso said after the race. "Jenson was putting a lot of pressure."
Vettel failed again to win his home race but passed Button with one lap remaining in the 67-lap. The move was under scrutiny from the stewards to see whether Vettel was off track when he passed. Button struggled with his tires in last few laps, after challenging Alonso for the lead.
Sahara Force India drivers Nico Hulkenberg finished ninth, while his team-mate Paul di Resta claimed eleventh position at Hockenheim. Hulkenberg started off the race from the fifth place, while di Resta began from the ninth.
