Sunanda death: Tharoor accuses media for concocting baseless stories against him

New Delhi: Caught in the middle of the probe into the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has accused media of conducting a witch hunt against him. He blames media, espicially Kerala channels for planting false stories against him for the sake of TRPs.

"Revolted by the lies in the media about me, esp on Kerala channels. Stories are concocted & attributed to police sources without any basis. Our country needs better & more honest journalism. Not 1 that will broadcast or publish any lie so long as it will titillate & increase TRPs," he tweeted.

Tharoor was questioned twice last Thursday by the police for nearly 6 hours. His former domestic help - Narayan Singh, driver Bajrangi and friend Sanjay Diwan were among the five people questioned along with him.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Prem Nath and comprising Additional DCP PS Kushwaha and three senior officers asked Tharoor about his relations with Sunanda and some other aspects. He was also questioned about the circumstances in which Sunanda had left him at the airport after returning from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi on January 15, 2014 and checked in at Leela Hotel, the sources said.

Meanwhile, Sunanda's viscera sample has been sent to an FBI laboratory in the US for further probe.
