KOCHI: Indian Space Research Organisation former chairman G Madhavan Nair will inaugurate the science expo organised by the Swadeshi Science Movement (SSM), Kerala, at Ernakulam Siva Temple Ground on Thursday. The five-day programme is aimed to inculcate the spirit of national self-reliance among students, youth, scientists, technocrats and the public at large.All major science and technology and research and development organisations in the country will take part in the ‘Vigyan Mela’. ISRO, DRDO, DAE, Ministry of Earth Sciences, CIFT, CIFNET, NPOL, Pollution Control Board, GAIL, Coconut Development Board and Coir Board among others will put up stalls. The students’ programme to be held on Thursday is the major attraction of the mela. Painting, essay and quiz contest will be held on Sunday and a eco-meet on Monday. At the expo, the students will get an opportunity to interact with a panel of scientists of international repute. Each schools can send at least 10 students each, accompanied by a teacher to participate in the programmes. The science pavilion is another attraction where students can exhibit their science models.SSM has been organising the programme for the past six years. The last date for registration is Thursday.
