HYDERABAD: The CBI on Thursday told a lower court hearing a bail petition by IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, an accused in the illegal mining scam, that it is following up fresh leads on her deeds, and therefore bail for her at this stage was not advisable.The agency’s counsel similarly also opposed enlargement of IAS officer B P Acharya and Emaar official G V Vijaya Raghav in the Emaar Properties scam case.Presenting its argument against bail for Srilakshmi, the CBI said its second chargesheet in the case had recorded statements by several officials and individuals who had thrown light on the monetary benefits allegedly obtained by her. In particular, the role of her brother-in-law M Rakesh Babu was being investigated. Since Srilakshmi could influence these witnesses, being herself a highly placed officer and married to another -- her husband in an IPS officer of the rank of additional director-general of police -- freeing her on bail might handicap the probe. Judge B Nagamaruthi Sarma will hear the Srilakshmi bail case on April 25 and Acharya’s bail plea on April 23.As for the petition filed by Vijaya Raghav challenging his detention in the Emaar case, the agency told the court that it would file a supplementary chargesheet on the Emaar land scam by April 26; if not, his case for release might be considered then. The Emaar official contends that his very arrest is illegal and therefore there is no basis for extension of his detention. His counsel told the court that his client’s petition against his detention has been admitted by the High Court and sought his release now with whatever conditions the judge might impose. After hearing both sides, judge Sarma reserved his orders and posted the matter to April 26. He asked the petitioner’s counsel to furnish copies of the writ petitions filed before the High Court.
