BANGALORE: To induce an interest towards Kannada literary works among students, the Kannada Book Authority plans to deliver effective speeches at colleges and attract students towards Kannada novels and books. The authority will rope in veteran Kannada writers, scholars and teachers to deliver effective speeches under the banner- “Nanna Mechina Pustaka”. Also an open discussion will be held between the speakers, teachers and college students. Speaking to Express, Dr Siddalingaiah, chairman, Kannada Book Authority said, “We think college students these days are ignoring Kannada. They are attracted towards literary works in English. .” Siddalingaiah also said that the Authority had earlier achieved fruitful results when the same initiative was taken up at colleges in Mysore and Gadag. The authority will be visiting renowned institutions like St Joseph’s College, Mount Carmel College, Christ University, among others, where they feel there is no atmosphere of Kannada culture. This  project will start from National College, Basavanagudi from January next.Kannada books at Corporate Companies Kannada Book Authority is all set to distribute Kannada literary works to software engineers in the city. During Kannada Rajyothsava celebrations at a corporate company, the Authority found out that there were no Kannada books at any corporate sector libraries except at Infosys. They will distribute books at corporate companies. Dr Siddalingaiah, chairman, Kannada Book Authority said that they will distribute Kannada books freely at all those corporate sectors who write letters to the authority asking for the same.Kannada books at 50 per cent discountsFrom January 5 to8, Kannada Book Authority will sell Kannada books at the Ravindra Kalshetra premises with discounts upto 50 per cent.  This is the fourth year the authority is organising the book mela and Siddaligaiah said that they recorded a turn over of `1 crore from last year’s sales.
