ROURKELA: Ahead of the Maoists bandh call in Jharkhand and border districts of Orissa, security measures have been stepped up and combing intensified in Saranda forest along the Orissa-Jharkhand border. The 24-hour bandh began on Wednesday night. Sources said inter-State night buses originating from Rourkela to Jharkhand are likely to be suspended. The Jharkhand regional committee of the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit has given the bandh call to express solidarity with the villagers protesting the proposal to set up headquarters of the Indian Reserve Battalion at Khuntpani block in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. The outfit is also opposing the visit of Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh and SAIL’s plan to develop small townships at some forested locations under the Manohar police limits in Saranda along the Jharkhand-Orissa border.
