CHENNAI: A school and an anganwadi will be established in Perumpakkam to cater to the need of the local people, Advocate-General A Navaneethakrishnan informed the first bench of the Madras HC on Monday. The submission was made in response to a public interest writ petition from A Narayanan of Viru gambakkam, a social worker, praying for a direction to authorities concerned to discontinue the allegedly ill-conceived JNNURM project, which was under progress at Perumpakkam Phase I and II.Kannagi Nagar and Semmancheri, where poor migrating people were given accommodation, were over-crowded. Their condition of living was pitiable, more particularly of women and children. Necessary infrastructural facilities such as water, sanitation, schools and anganwadies and power supply were inadequate. Hence, there was no point in undertaking similar project in Perumpakkam, without upgrading the standards in Kannagi Nagar and Semmancheri, petitioner contended.
