NELLORE: Minor irrigation minister TG Venkatesh said Rs 4 crore had been allocated for conducting satellite survey of all the 65,000 historical tanks in the state including 715 in Nellore district.The minister, who reviewed the condition of the tanks at a meeting here on Sunday, expressed concern over neglect of the tanks which played a vital role in agriculture.He asked the officials to identify places for taking up construction of new tanks to increase the area of tank-fed lands from 2.5 lakh acres to 4 lakh acres.The minister promised to talk to the government on forest clearance for construction of nine tanks in Vakadu and for reconstruction of two tanks in Bogulu and Guduru which breached during cyclone in 2005.The minister, who also discussed implementation of GO 610, said that the implementation of the GO will result in injustice to Seemandhra employees regarding their promotion and said that the Rayalseema Hakkula Vedika, which is headed by him, was determined to prevent injustice by pressing the government not to implement the GO.
