ANANTAPUR: The birth anniversary celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai Baba took off with Rathotsavam of Sri Venugopala Swamy and Sri Anjaneya Swamy in Prashanti Nilayam on Friday. The richly decorated idols of Lord Venugopala Swamy and Lord Anjaneya Swamy were taken out in a procession from Sai Kulwant Hall and placed on a chariot decked out with flowers. Sai Baba used to worship the two deities before the commencement of his birthday celebrations every year when he was alive.The Rathotsavam was formally inaugurated by Sathya Sai Central Trust secretary K Prasad Rao. Trust member R J Ratnakar, local MLA Palle Raghunatha Reddy and others were present.Thousands of devotees from various parts of the country who came to Puttaparthi to participate in the birth anniversary celebrations, witnessed Rathotsavam. A spiritual ambience pervaded the town with the beginning of Sai Baba birth anniversary fete.The police made elaborate security arrangements to thwart any untoward incident during the celebrations. Raghunatha Reddy asked the officials to make elaborate arrangements keeping in view the devotee rush and ensure the smooth conduct of the birth anniversary celebrations.
