BANGALORE: “Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has resolved to set right all water leakage problems and will aim to become a people-friendly department,” said BWSSB and Urban Development Minister S Suresh Kumar.He was speaking at the launch of the technical directory brought out by BWSSB Engineers Association on Monday. Later, addressing the media, Suresh Kumar said “With the help of modern technology, we will take measures to reduce water loss in the city, to improve the condition of water source. The Cauvery IV stage II phase will be completed between March and April.” He added that the call centre would be revamped and steps will be taken to strengthen the board. He advised the employees of BWSSB to take criticisms personally and work towards improving on the same.“We do not intend to disconnect water supply to people who have not installed RWH. We only request the consumers to make rain water harvesting part of their homes,” the minister explained. He also said that the advertisements by the city water board were misleading. It was not to threaten the public but to encourage them to install RWH. Out of 55,000 buildings (measuring 40ft X 60ft), 34,500 buildings have installed RWH,” he said.“We have planned to extend the deadline by three months. The issue will be discussed at the assembly session which will start from January 31. We are likely to extend the deadline,” he further added. Also speaking at the event P B Ramamurthy, chairman, BWSSB said, “BWSSB should concentrate on reusing the waste water. Sewage network must be upgraded along with the STPs with new process for treating water problems.”
