BANGALORE: Presenting a proposal to make solid waste management sustainable in Bangalore, Solid Waste Management Round Table, a citizen group, said that decentralized waste management and segregation of waste at source are the solutions to sustainable solid waste management.Speaking at an awareness programme hosted by Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Sandhya Narayan, said that decentralization is a cost-cutting measure as well.Pointing out that the city corporation spends Rs 405 crore to transfer solid waste from 198 wards to landfills outside the city, she said that it is imperative to reduce waste to reduce cost.A S Sadashivaiah, Chairman, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, said that segregation at source should be ensured. Citing limitations of KSPCB being a regulatory authority, he said that the board is planning to create more awareness in the city, especially at the school-level.Building under litigation demolishedBangalore: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) demolished a building under litigation on Bannerghatta Road on Thursday morning.HDFC Bank, restaurants like Pizza Hut, Barista, Daily Bread, and other offices were located in the complex.At the back of the building, a hollow block construction of shelters for workers of that building too was demolished by the revenue department.The 2.32 acres of land on which Amal Odhbhava Tower, situated near Apollo Hospital, was built had been a bone of contention between the Revenue department and an individual party.On Thursday, the revenue department formally took over the building and handed over the property to the BBMP.However, bank employees said that they were informed about the demolition only on Tuesday night. But, Officials told ‘Express’ that several attempts were made to recover the property since 1986.
