THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Additional Chief Secretary K Jayakumar, who is also a noted lyricist, has been selected for the Ratna Award instituted by the newly-formed Bharanikavu Sivakumar Memorial Trust. Addressing a press conference here, Trust president Aji Kumarapuram said Jayakumar has captured the hearts of Keralites with his touching lyrics and imagery.The Trust has been formed by friends and colleagues to commemorate writer and music director the late Bharanikavu Sivakumar. The Trust, whose main aim is to select the best television programmes, is planning to make a documentary on the life of Bharanikavu Sivakumar.The Ratna Award comprising of a statuette, a cash prize of Rs 10,001 and citation will be presented to K Jayakumar. Other awards in 20 fields in television were also announced on Friday. The awards include: Jaihind TV’s ‘Jeevitham Ithuvare’ (Best Interview), MM TV’s ‘Thiruva Ethirva’ (Best satire programme), Amrita TV’s ‘Kathayalithu Jeevitham’ (Best family- based programme), Indiavision’s ‘Varanthyam’ (Best current affairs programme), Amrita TV’s ‘Cinemakaryam’ (Best informative programme), Harshan in Asianet (Best news reader, male) and Swapna Vijayakumar in Amrita TV (Best news reader, female). Awards will be presented at Hotel Mascot on September 20.
