Churu: The rescue operation of a two-and-a-half-year-old boy, who fell into a 200-feet deep borewell in Rajasthan's Churu district is on from past 20 hours. However, the rescue team has failed to make any progress as the child has not shown any signs of movement.
A parallel tunnel of up to 40 feet has been dug and oxygen is being supplied to the child. The Army personnel have also been pressed into service to rescue the trapped child.
The boy, Radheshyam, fell into the borewell on Monday evening while he was trying to cross over the open shaft which was covered with a sack, the police said on Monday. The Army was called in by the district administration after the civil arrangements to rescue the boy did not deliver results.
"On request of the district administration, a team from Army comprising engineers and medical representative was pressed into service to pull the boy out," Defence spokesperson Col SD Goswami said. He said that a team from South Western Command reached past midnight and has expedited rescue work along with the district administration.
