HYDERABAD: Monsoon has just gathered force and all major reservoirs, particularly those in the Krishna basin, in the state are brimming with heavy inflows.With the improved water situation and promise of more rain to come, irrigation officials are confident of meeting the water requirement for the agricultural season. With heavy rain occurring in catchment areas in Maharashtra, Karnataka and parts of Telangana in the last few days, the inflows into the reservoirs in the Krishna basin are rising. Currently, the Almatti reservoir in Karnataka is holding 127.28 tmcft of water as against its gross capacity of 129.72 tmcft. Several reservoirs in the State like Jurala, Tungabhadra, Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam also have reached their full capacity.The water level in Jurala is 1,041.88 ft now, just three feet short of the full reservoir level of 1,045 ft. The discharge from Jurala project at 11 am on Tuesday was 45,281 cusecs.Water level in the Srisailam reservoir, with about 54,578 cusecs of inflows, has reached 881.2 ft, holding 241.91 tmcft of water. For the same period last year, the level stood at 873.7 ft, holding about 204 tmcft.While the Nagarjuna Sagar project is receiving about 39,642 cusecs at 11 am, the storage level is still at 302.2 tmcft, about 100 tmcft short of the storage capacity of 408.2 tmcft. The Nagarjuna Sagar is brimming with huge inflows over the past few days which decreased to some extent on Tuesday.However, the scenario in projects under the Godavari Basin is different. The Nizam Sagar project, the Singur project and the Sri Ram Sagar project fall short of the full reservoir level - 1,405 ft, 1,717.93 ft and 1091 ft respectively - by at least five feet.
